OUR Philosophy
Mountain School’s approach to early child education focuses on social-emotional, whole-child development. We believe children learn and grow by playing, trying new things, and being exposed to a variety of settings and experiences.
CHILD-DIRECTED PLAY—We believe play is how young children learn best and that school should be a joy-filled experience.
NATURE—We believe natural outdoor settings are ideal for physical, social-emotional and cognitive growth and allow imaginations to soar.
THE POWER OF “TRY”—We believe “mistakes” are learning experiences and that we all gain confidence through risk-taking and adversity.
DIVERSITY and INCLUSION—We believe all families bring value to the school community.
COMMUNITY—We believe that all benefit from being an active part of a supportive community.
PARENT EDUCATION—We believe parent education is equally as important and complementary to a child’s growth and development.
At mountain school we foster…
Competence through building physical, cognitive, social and emotional skill,
Confidence through risk taking and mastery of challenges,
Connection & Caring for others and for the earth!
The O in LGSONS : Observation
Observations are a unique opportunity for parents to slow down, step back, and watch our children explore the world, experience a new interaction, and even struggle a little bit to figure out who they are!
You don’t have to be a master with words to write an observation. Observations are non-judgmental. They are a fluid, descriptive note-taking that captures the activity and mood of your child.
Observations Are…
A communication tool between parents and teachers
A record of what your child was doing at a particular age in a particular setting
A treasured keepsake, a written record of your child’s early times in school.
